Literature Analysis

Basic:

Plot: Thomas Hunter can live in 2 separate realities by sleeping in one dream so then he can live in the other dream and vice versa. One reality being in the future where humanity died off by a virus that mutated in extreme heat and the other is present-day earth where the company who made the virus is yet to be announced. So, Thomas Hunter tries to fight the person who started the virus and also fighting an evil being in the other reality which future earth.

Morning Routine: (1) I believe the author is lazy to get up but when he works he works hard. (2) I believe this because some authors put certain personalities/traits in their characters. The author clearly drinks coffee. (3) Probably meditates so he can have a sound mind while writing down the book.

(1) On page 43 "adrenaline... makes your head weak... you have plenty of muscles to fight, but no muscle to think." Maybe it shows that to start thinking better he needs to train his brain and so coffee could get you started like waking you up or give you the energy you need to train.

(2) On page 40 "His aspirations to write novels had finally ruptured the line between fantasy and reality..." Here Thomas Hunter is also a writer like the author of the book.

(3) On page 34 "It was just that, water, but it washed away all his concern and anxiety and set his mind free" and "He'd been here a while, lost in a distant world..." seems like what you feel when you meditate deeply.

5 Literary Techniques

Foreshadowing:

"All was good." He says after a new worker comes in the shop having to leave much later at night and having to through a dark alley so it is telling us that something bad is about to happen.

Allusion:

"The forbidden water..." In this reality (future one), you are not allowed to drink the black water or the forbidden water or you will bring the evil to the good side of the earth and it references the bible because the Tree of Knowledge was forbidden because it will unleash evil to earth and taint it with only bad.

Hyperbole:

"I blasted through a horde of flies like they were the air itself." He is exaggerating his strength.

I noticed diction and euphemism.

Next Level:

1) and 2) My 8th-grade teacher brought me to this book and a couple of others as well, but he showed us and read us this book I first I didn't pay attention but the love relationship between Thomas Hunter and Rachel was worth hearing and continuing reading the book because it started off interesting because it was Rachel that was courting Thomas.

3) My reading habit is reading till I can't read no more because I am tired (not of reading) though for this to happen the book must get me hooked on so first I'll read till something interesting happens and if doesn't I'll take a break then read the book again later, but it still hasn't hooked me on I won't care to read the book unless it's an assignment I read the book by force.

Plot: Thomas Hunter tries to save humanity in the past and in the future. So he uses knowledge from the future-day earth to his advantage. While getting help from both present-day and future-day earth to stop the production of the raison strain before it becomes a virus that kills off all humanity on present-day earth. He is also trying to stop the evils from Teeleh.

Theme: Fighting evils on both sides and to bring peace back to both worlds.

Tone: Tense

"Thomas recoiled to a crouch, but he couldn't seem to tear his eyes off those two holes in the brick..." he was in a serious situation where he could die at any moment

"Thomas reacted without thinking. He grabbed the machete, rolled to the ground, and came up in position one, blade ex-tended toward the door."

Thomas is too shocked about the incident in the alley that his body still reacts in a fight or flight mode.

"A thousand black creatures clung to the branches surrounding him, peering at him with red eyes too large for their angular faces."

Thomas encounters creatures that are unknown and that later on start to attack him.

The character is dynamic because he has to learn and act on both worlds also he later gets a test that shows that he doesn't really sleep because when one sleeps they regain energy, but Thomas doesn't.

When I read the book I feel like I am meeting the person because every time something new happens I feel like I imagine what is about to happen thinking like the character.
