Mindless Thoughts

 The bishop former self had a different character than the one he has right now. He was very different and time changed him into the bishop and more towards the right way to live. I can't believe the bishop is 75 years old. 

We got a better look into Jean Valjean and we read that he actually is full of hatred though he hides. That he changed the moment he stole the loaf of bread and entered prison and kept trying to escape. It's sad to see that Jean had to pay years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread when he can repay it back in hours if he had a job. Though he does accepts that what he did was bad and that he was to blame for he still had hatred brewing. Now we see that he has been building his strength because he was put into prison. 

 It was sad to see that Jean Valjean was doing good but had to do evil to bring good. He wanted to feed his family and his sister, but without a job, he couldn't so he robbed a loaf of bread. Though when he was caught he was found guilty and though he was put into prison for 5 years after stealing a loaf of bread is sad, but yes stealing is stealing even though it's small. 

It still shocks me that Jean still doesn't trust the Bishop and that he still has doubts. He asks him why he lets him in if he could be an assassin, but the bishop's response is simple and yet the response you'll expect from the bishop. 

 Jean Valjean can't think of the bishop as a bishop. The bishop talks about his past or where he came from and how the country was from was and how it was run. Though still not trying to bring up Jean's past.

 The fact that Jean Valjean received kindness after being treated harshly wherever he went surprised him. Madam Magloire tells the bishop all the bad things she heard about the man walking around yet the bishop tells Mademoiselle Bapstine to set a place to let Jean eat and Mademoiselle trust what the bishop does. The bishop says that he is much worthy than most people because if someone who comes out of prison with hatred deserves pity, but someone who comes out in a state of peace is much more worthy. 

 Madame Magloire has been trying to make Bishop cautious of who to let in and to secure the house, but the bishop still lets Jean come in while hearing all the things said by Madam Magloire about Jean. So, the bishop still has faith in God that nothing will happen and that it is by his grace that he keeps the house safe. Madam Magloire tried to say that Mademoiselle also agrees with her, but she quickly interrupts her to say that she has done nothing.

 The bishop notes that many people think that you are lucky to become successful or wealthy. The other bishops have luxurious things and who wear big miters and also have influence and on the other hand, the bishop Bienvenu has none of that.

The way the bishop thinks is different because he says that the bishop's first charity is being poor meaning the bishop giving up his possessions to help others and putting people first rather themselfs. The bishop doesn't care what people's ideas are or the way they think if they need help he is one of the first ones to lend a hand. 

 Jean Valjean who was in prison for 19 years judged shamed by everyone suddenly is about to cross paths with the Bishop who is not the protagonist. Jean Valjean was rejected lodging and dining from everyone and everywhere he asked even a dog rejected him staying in the kennel. He says that he doesn't turn back because he knows what he is about to see the eyes of people shaming him while he is walking out. This reminds me of when people say don't look at your past if not your future or something along those lines. He is sad but strong at the same time which is weird because when you feel sad you feel like doing nothing and you feel weak. I liked this chapter even though it was long but it was good.

 What shocked me was that the bishop came to the man to ask for his blessing and when he kneels down and the moment he raised his head he saw that the man has died. Also, that he used august and the word expired instead of "he died". The man that was fighting against the evil of the world (government) (tyranny) with all his power he ended up being hunted down.

 The fact that he fears nothing or fear won't stop him (Bishop Digne) is amazing because many people and people today still have trouble with fear even I have trouble. I like that there isn't much training to the Bishops anti-fear it's just as simple as believing in God. Also, that Madam Bapstine and Magloire don't need to speak to know what he is saying or asking goes to show that they know him very well and have been with for quite some time. Even though they stress over him the start to realize they shouldn't be they know that the Bishop is a good man that helps people in need. 

 The fact that someone tried to talk to the Bishop like there was no God, but the person sort seemed like he wanted to be God. So if there isn't a God then there isn't a way to become God. Also, the person just doesn't want to take responsibility he wants to be himself and justifies it by being a mere human. Though I liked how the Bishop handled the situation even though the guy was just talking badly of the Bishop's beliefs. 

 The fact that the Bishop went across a mountain to go meet with the village living there without an escort since there are bandits that would still from everyone that would go there is quite fascinating. He only took a guide to take him towards the village. When the Bishop encountered the bandits the bandits gave the Bishop all of which they took from and then the Bishop gave those to the people since he questioned if the place the bandits took it from actually need it.

 I liked that whenever the Bishop did something that was luxurious he did it without taking something away from the poor so they weren't affected. He kept silverware since he has trouble renouncing it and he wouldn't fasten the door neither at day or night and he would pray to the Lord to protect and guard his house.

 It's sad to hear that a person dies of a disease rather than of age, also must be sad for M. Myriel to see his wife die somewhere they recently moved to because of something bad that was happening where they use to live so the bad things kept pilling up M. Myriel had no kids with his wife so it must be lonely. I like the fact that they compared two women so differently one being nice and kind and the other fat and grumpy.

 I feel like M. Myriel was set in life like he doesn't really need to worry about much. Something that caught my attention is that M. Myriel was married at an early age and that it was an arranged marriage, so I wonder how he felt during this event or did he just along because he didn't or something. When they talked about the "Revolution" are they talking about the French revolution? 

 I feel like the preface/book in general would last for a long time because those same problems going on in the 18th century is still going on right now in some country. I think the fact that we still haven't fixed poverty it astonishing because its a problem that has been going on for a long time.
